Our Social Responsibility message for June reminds everyone about the danger of binge drinking, particularly for youth. Canada's low risk drinking guidelines suggest that the safe level of alcohol for men is three drinks per day and two drinks for women and not to exceed 15 per week for men and 10 per week for women.

Description

April 22 is Earth Day so for the entire month of April, BC Liquor Stores will be featuring its green initiatives and sustainability work.

BC Liquor Stores is committed to making a difference. The goal is to reduce our environmental footprint by implementing programs such as waste management, energy and fuel efficiency, container recycling and plastic bag reduction.

We are passionate about reducing waste by recycling cardboard, paper and plastic and encouraging use of recyclable bags. Some BC Liquor Store locations also use sustainable building materials, non-toxic paints, and energy-efficient lighting.

We are power smart. Since 2009, our energy-efficiency projects have saved enough energy to power 327 BC homes per year.

We recycle. In 2015, we recycled 2,543 tonnes of cardboard, plastic, and paper - equivalent to the weight of 13 blue whales.

We are carbon neutral. We have invested in 18,621 tonnes of BC carbon offsets since 2010 - equivalent to taking 3,920 passenger vehicles off the road for a year.

We take 'em back. Last year, customers returned 94 million containers to BC Liquor Stores. Over 90% of liquor bottles and cans sold in BC are returned.

Are you okay without a bag? In 2015, BC Liquor Stores redesigned their plastic bags to save over 21,000 kg of plastic per year - equivalent to the weight of 78 adult grizzly bears. You can help us save even more plastic by bringing your own reusable bag.

By doing our part together, we can help create a greener world.
