Share-a-Bear offers opportunity to give to a child

VANCOUVER – BC Liquor Stores is encouraging British Columbians to embrace the spirit of giving by participating in the annual Share-a-Bear campaign that is taking place in all 195 of its locations from now until just before Christmas.

Customers have the opportunity to purchase twin teddy bears at any BC Liquor Stores location and then leave one of the bears at the store to ‘share’ with a local community charity. BC Liquor Stores staff select charities in their communities that help families in need and the ‘shared’ bear finds its way to a child through those charities.

Now in its 24th year, the Share-a-Bear campaign demonstrates the Liquor Distribution Branch’s commitment to social responsibility and to being a good corporate citizen in the communities where it does business. BC Liquor Stores sell the twin bears at cost – $11 for the pair.

Attorney General and Minister of Justice Suzanne Anton –
“There are few things more gratifying than putting a smile on a child’s face – especially during the holiday season. Purchasing a Share-a-Bear is a great way to demonstrate our generosity and to share the spirit of the holiday season with a family in need. My hope is that, this year, more bears than ever find their way into the arms of a child.”

Liquor Distribution Branch General Manager and CEO R. Blain Lawson –
“The annual Share-a-Bear campaign is dear to the hearts of our customers and staff because they know this is one way to bring some joy to a child in their community during this festive time of year. I encourage everyone to join me and ‘Share-a-Bear’ – it makes a difference.”

Quick Facts:
Last year more than 24,000 bears were donated to families with children in need, and close to 500,000 bears have been donated since the program began in 1989.
